The problem was that she was so smart, the only thing she needed was a person to love her.

A few months after receiving a letter of apology from New Zealand's Minister for Children and Families (CBC) and two hours before she became an adult, Ms Bennett lost her job and received a settlement.

She was a mother, daughter and friend. It's not something which all families do this for. — Emma Bennett (@EmmaAbel) July 1, 2017

She has lived and worked in all four places since she started working as a family therapist. She works with children with autism by doing the mental health counseling at St. Johns Academy, which is a private and supportive home for children with a rare form of autism.

All told, Ms Bennett has had six children with autism, two of whom are from New Zealand. The other is a son from her previous marriage.

Ms Bennett said she feels the world is a little unfair because the world has made a difference for her.

"When the world was more unequal it affected me a lot," she said. "You got to take a stand for what's correct. What's right.

"That was the message I had, I was proud that I could be a part of a society that supported them for five years, not just for themselves, because I think everyone is proud, that people are really looking for help, support
